the quality is quite well for the lack of light we had there. the actual footage was way darker tho so i used magix video deluxe to increase the brightness afterwards.
The key (at least to me) is to have a person with you with a camera to capture the moment! That's very hard to do (at least for me!). I've only been stuck 4 times where a guy was with me and that I had a camera and/or a phone with video and/or photo capability.
I use an older Lumix DMZ-FC70 which is in the "compact superzoom" category. It takes excellent videos but it's also a pretty big and expensive camera. I'm in favor of anything that you can attach to a tripod and has decent low-light response. I don't like action cameras because of the fisheye effect.
I use mobile phone-gaffer tape it to a box or something for the outside shots of the wheels spinnin etc and dash cam limpet mounted to side windows to get inside shots. Can also Mount dash cam on outside rear view mirror to get wheel shots if spinning while moving too.
