Definitely 4wd
Use 2wd rear to reverse into some slop
Spin as hard as you can and bury the fuckin rear as deep as you can
Use 4wd to pull out and go home
All needs satisfied by now

Except about as often or not you'll get more stuck when trying the 4wd. Or the 4wd might not engage properly.
