There's keep spinning the tires and burying the truck to the frame or axles. There's losing traction on slick surface and still keep throttling and spinning and watching the tires spin.

@pnpbottom more above board to "help" someone who's stuck, lend him a shovel to dig around the stuck tires in snow mud or sand. Hold off on actual vehicle recovery for a time.
